A coalition of more than 30 businesses and organizations launched an initiative called Iowa Renewable Energy Jobs 2020 on Tuesday calling for the creation of at least 20,000 clean energy jobs in Iowa and saving Iowans more than $1 billion a year in energy costs. This can be done by expanding renewable energy to 40% of our electricity by 2020, saying "no" to special ratepayer financing for nuclear plants, and by implementing additional energy efficiency measures and transportation solutions like passenger rail and fuel-efficient vehicles.
This announcement was covered by Iowa Public Radio and by five newspapers in Iowa as well as the Blue-Green Alliance nationally. Here are the links to the Iowa newspaper articles:
This initiative now creates a tremendous opportunity for climate advocates to speak up in favor of Iowa Renewable Energy Jobs. We urgently need to increase support for strong climate action to reduce greenhouse gases, prevent future disasters, and help victims of the disasters that can no longer be avoided.
