EPA has released the 16th annual U.S. greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, entitled Inventory of U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks:  1990 – 2009.  The final report shows that 2009 GHG emissions decreased by 6.1 percent from the previous year, while overall GHG emissions increased by more than 7.3 percent from 1990 to 2009.  In 2009, total emissions of the six main GHGs – carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulfur hexafluoride – amounted to the equivalent of 6,633 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.  As with previous inventories, the final report was submitted to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.  [For further  information: http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/emissions/usinventoryreport.html]
